More than 270,000 people attended last September’s contest at Le Golf National to see Europe defeat the United States 17½-10½ as France hosted The Ryder Cup for the first time. It was only the second time the biennial contest had been played in continental Europe after Valderrama, Spain, in 1997 and the economic benefits to the host country have been outlined in a report compiled by researchers from Sheffield Hallam University's Sport Industry Research Centre.

The star-studded line up for the Opening Ceremony of The 2018 Ryder Cup, revealed today, is set to ensure golf’s greatest team contest gets off to the most dazzling start in its 91-year history. Hosted by French footballing legend David Ginola, the one hour Ceremony, which will be followed by a special 90 minute concert featuring the Kaiser Chiefs and Jain, will begin at 5pm French time on Thursday September 27 in a purpose built arena at Le Golf National, the course outside Paris which will host the 42nd Ryder Cup between Europe and the United States over the following three days.

The 2018 Ryder Cup recently featured prominently at a special sustainable development function hosted by the French Ministry of Sport and the Natural History Museum in Paris. Represented by Ryder Cup Europe Director Richard Hills, the French Golf Federation and GEO Foundation, the event proudly confirmed its goal of meeting the 15 Commitments contained in the government’s Charter for Sustainable Events.

European Captain Thomas Bjørn has announced that Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell and Lee Westwood will join Robert Karlsson to complete the European Vice Captain line-up for The 2018 Ryder Cup against the United States at Le Golf National, in France, from September 28-30. The quartet will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Dane’s backroom team courtesy of a combined 24 Ryder Cup appearances, joining Swede Karlsson, who featured in the 2006 and 2008 contests, to bring that total figure to 26.

While the 42nd edition of The Ryder Cup kicks off on Friday September 28th, the rivalry will be begin on Tuesday with the Ryder Cup Celebrity Match. Part of a week-long schedule of events in Paris, the match will see eight celebrities from Europe and USA compete in a nine-hole scramble at Le Golf National.

The selection criteria for Team Europe have been confirmed for the 2018 Junior Ryder Cup, which will take place at Disneyland Paris®, on September 24-25. The European Team will again comprise 12 amateur players – six boys and six girls – from any European Golf Association member country who are under the age of 18 as of January 1, 2018.
