Sept. 23-28, 2025 Bethpage Black Course, Farmingdale, NY

Selecting wildcards is a crucial part of any Captain's job. There's no doubting the contribution made by Thomas Bjørn's picks this week in France.

Europe's stunning 17.5-10.5 victory against Jim Furyk's United States side owed a great deal to Bjørn's picks - Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia and Paul Casey. Between them the four players earned 9.5 points, the biggest points tally by a group of wildcards in Ryder Cup history.

Stat of the Day

The best previous tally was 7.5, earned by Tom Watson's picks at Gleneagles in 2014. Europe's best total before this week was the 6.5 won in 1991, meaning Poulter, Stenson, Garcia and Casey surpassed that total by three points. Garcia and Stenson both won three points, with Garcia becoming Europe's all-time leading points scorer with 25.5. Poulter claimed two points, with Casey adding 1.5 to the European cause.

Well chosen, Captain Bjørn.
