Bernd Wiesberger made further strides towards a Ryder Cup debut after successfully defending his Made in HimmerLand presented by FREJA title on the European Tour.
The five-stroke victory sees the Austrian golfer move up one spot on the European Points List into sixth place with 3,662.13 points, as well as a further four places on the World Points List into 11th with 149.62 points.
Should Wiesberger make Pádraig Harrington’s team at Whistling Straits in September, he would become the first Austrian golfer to represent Team Europe at the Ryder Cup.
Wiesberger went wire-to-wire with rounds of 66-65-68-64, with eight birdies in his final round sealing a dominant week in Denmark.
This was the Austrian’s eighth victory on the European Tour and his fourth since 2019, joining Dustin Johnson with the most Tour victories in that time span.

“There’s a lot of golf to be played,” Wiesberger said when asked about a possible Ryder Cup debut. “First of all, I really wanted to have a good week and start playing better golf again.
“This week really clicked for me, and I had a couple of good breaks on the way as well.
“I’ve got to keep playing good golf but I would like to put my name in the vicinity of one of those spots. First things first, I need to play some more tournaments like this week and it will sort itself out.
“I’ve had seven chances (to defend a title) – I wasn’t successful the first six.
“I’ve said it all week, I really like it here. Playing here is good for my confidence especially after a couple of tougher weeks, so it’s a special place for me.
“It brings out the best in me. I got it going when I needed to so really enjoyable.”
Italy’s Guido Migliozzi also made a move into the top ten of the European Points List after a final round 63 fired the Italian into his third runner-up finish in just 11 starts on the 2021 Race to Dubai.
He now sits on 2,456.22 points and will be hoping a third career European Tour title can boost the 24-year-old into Captain Harrington’s plans in September.
Six-time Ryder Cup player Ian Poulter moved up six places on the World Points List after finishing in a share of third at the Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA TOUR.
The Englishman now sits in 17th place on 104.31 points, one spot behind Migliozzi on the World Points List as he bids for a seventh appearance for Team Europe.
As it stands Rahm (5185.82 points), Tommy Fleetwood (4,911.26 points), Tyrrell Hatton (4,860.56 points) and Rory McIlroy (3,97.19 points) fill the automatic places on the European Points List.
Viktor Hovland (241.40 points), Casey (227.31 points), Lee Westwood (226.98 points), Matthew Fitzpatrick (200.36 points), Victor Perez (187.37 points) currently occupy the World Points List spots.
Harrington will choose his three Captain’s Picks after the conclusion of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth during the week of September 13, 2021.
