Captain Jim Furyk announced his four captain’s picks to finalize the 2018 U.S. Ryder Cup team. Among them was Phil Mickelson, who will be making his 12th appearance in the biennial competition later in September. That appearance will extend Mickelson’s record for the most American team Ryder Cup appearances of all time. In second place? None other than Furyk himself.

The 2018 competition will be the 42nd edition of the Ryder Cup, meaning Mickelson will have been present for 29 percent of the tournament’s playings. Even more impressive: The tournament has only been held 23 times since Mickelson was born. After this year’s playing, Mickelson will have played in half of all Ryder Cups that have been held in his lifetime.
He’s also the only player with more than seven appearances to still be active. Tiger Woods (another captain’s pick this year) will be making his eighth appearance at Le Golf National, putting him in a tie for third-most all-time.
