By Josh Carr On January 20, 2025 9:00 UTC

Two-time Ryder Cup winner Tyrrell Hatton moved to the top of the European Ryder Cup Rankings after victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, a Rolex Series event on the DP World Tour.

The win sees Hatton tie Jon Rahm’s Rolex Series record of five titles and also moves the three-time Team Europe man to the top of qualifying on 922.84 points.

Should Hatton make Luke Donald’s 2025 European Ryder Cup team in New York, it will be his fourth consecutive appearance at the biennial event as he goes in search of his fist away victory.

Hatton started the day one stroke behind New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier, however a final round of three-under-par (69) was enough to win the event by one at Emirates Golf Club.

“It feels amazing,” said Hatton. “I said earlier in the week, this is one of the events that you would like to have on your CV. It's such an iconic event for the DP World Tour.

“To add my name to the list of the amazing champions that have been before me, and to have my name on that trophy now, it's a dream come true.

“I'm not going to lie, I was pretty nervous on the back nine to be honest. I guess I just maybe wanted it a bit too much.

“I knew the position I was in, and a little bit scruffy down the last. But yeah, to see that putt go in felt amazing. Just so happy to win.”

Seven-time Team Europe player Rory McIlroy dropped down to second place in qualifying although still enjoyed a solid week in Dubai with four, under par rounds of 70-71-69-66 seeing the five-time Ryder Cup winner finish in a tie for fourth.

And it was Denmark’s Niklas Nørgaard, who topped qualifying after the opening week, who finished tied with McIlroy after rounds of 71-68-71-66. This result sees the potential Ryder Cup rookie climb one spot into fifth in the European qualification race on 511.73 points.

As it stands, Hatton claims top spot in qualifying on 922.84 points, with McIlroy (884.07 points), Rasmus Højgaard (736.53 points), Matt Wallace (516.22 points), Nørgaard (511.73 points) and Paul Waring (465.13 points) rounding out the automatic qualifiers.

The qualification process will end at the DP World Tour’s Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, which concludes on Sunday August 24, 2025.
