The U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Selection Process has been significantly impacted by the cancellations of Junior Golf Championships across the nation.
The following events have been canceled and will no longer be included in the 2020 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Points System:
Girls Events:
Scott Robertson Memorial
ANA Junior Inspiration
Thunderbird International Junior
U.S. Girls’ Junior
Girls Junior PGA Championship
Boys Events:
Scott Robertson Memorial
Thunderbird International Junior
Western Junior Championship
U.S. Junior Amateur
Boys Junior PGA Championship
The automatic qualifying spots that were originally going to be awarded in the U.S. Junior Amateur, U.S. Girls’ Junior, Boys Junior PGA Championship and Girls Junior PGA Championship will now be awarded using the 2020 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team Points Standings.
We are including a new Boys Premier Event, the Maridoe Junior Invitational, which will now award points to the top finishers. We have also postponed the team announcement until August 24th, enabling us to include two postponed Premier Events as outlined in the 2020 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team Points System (Polo Junior Golf Classic, Rolex Junior Girls Championship).
If all additional point earning events are canceled, the top 5 Boys and Girls in the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team Points Standings at that time, will automatically earn a spot on Team USA. The final two spots will remain as originally planned, being one Boy and one Girl captain’s picks for which the PGA of America will consider multiple national ranking systems such as Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, Junior Golf Scoreboard, Rolex AJGA Rankings and World Amateur Golf Rankings to pinpoint the remaining top boy/girl selections.
