For the second time in two years, Patrick Cantlay is the Memorial Tournament Champion.
After a wild week that saw Ryder Cup Europe star and 54-hole leader Jon Rahm withdrawn due to a positive COVID test, Sunday’s leaderboard was a crowded affair. Cantlay and fellow Americans Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa all co-led at one point down the stretch, before a par on the first hole of a sudden death playoff handed Cantlay his fourth PGA TOUR victory.
Cantlay is looking to secure his first Ryder Cup appearance, having previously represented the U.S. at the Walker Cup and Presidents Cup, with just 13 weeks left until Captain Stricker finalizes his picks and the 2020 Ryder Cup team. With the win at Jack’s Place, the former UCLA star leaps to 8th in this week’s Ranking, up six spots from 14th.
Morikawa regained the 4th spot, moving up one position over Brooks Koepka, while former Jr. Ryder Cupper Scottie Scheffler rose from 16 to 14.
