As part of the Road to Rome 2022, the Italian Golf Federation has brought the official Ryder Cup trophy to Parma, a future Italian capital of culture.
From “Valle dei Templi” to “Monte Bianco”, passing through Monza, Florence, Desenzano del Garda and Naples, The Ryder Cup 2022 Project showcases the iconic destinations of Italy in the lead up to the next biennial team contest between Europe and the United States in Rome at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.
The day started in Piazza Garibaldi where Deputy Mayor of the city of Parma, Marco Bosi, posed for a photo with The Ryder Cup trophy alongside Franco Chimenti, President of the Italian Golf Federation and Vice President of the Coni, and Gian Paolo Montali, General Manager of The Ryder Cup Project 2022.
The renowned trophy then visited “Teatro Regio”, the city's opera house that welcomed The Ryder Cup with the evocative curtain made by Giovan Battista Borghesi. The trophy then made its entrance to “Teatro Farnese” inside the “Complesso Monumentale della Pilotta”.
The Italian Golf Federation delegation with President Chimenti, Federal Councillor Celso Lombardini, General Director of The Ryder Cup Project 2022, Gian Paolo Montali and the President of the Regional FIG Committee Emilia Romagna, Stefano Frigeri then reached Piazza Duomo, where the trophy was the subject of photographers' flashes in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Baptistery of San Giovanni.
More than 4,000 people attended the “Golf in Piazza” event on Sunday May 26, as Piazza Garibaldi was turned into an open-air green where qualified coaches gave free golf lessons.
