Patrick Cantlay mounted a Sunday charge at Sherwood Country Club to capture his third career victory on the PGA Tour at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP. Cantlay came from three back to start the final round with a 7-under par, 65 to win by one stroke ahead of Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm. Cantlay’s victory marks his second top 10 of the season, having also finished T8 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Both finishes earned him points towards qualifying for his first U.S. Ryder Cup Team. Following his win on Sunday, Cantlay jumped four spots to No. 12 in the U.S. Ryder Cup point standings. The top six in the standings will automatically qualify for the U.S. squad with the remaining six positions being filled by selections from Captain Steve Stricker. Cantlay has 11 additional top 10s on Tour since the qualifying period began in 2019.
Thomas, who held the 54-hole lead at the ZOZO Championship, finished T2 for his second top 10 finish of the season. He has 13 more top 10s over the course of the last two seasons that helped lift him to his current position at No. 3 in the U.S. Ryder Cup point standings. In 2018, Thomas made his Ryder Cup debut, where he went 4-1-0 in Paris. He was an automatic qualifier for the team at No. 3 in the standings.
