Jon Rahm Tops World Points List After Sentry Tournament of Champions Win

Jon Rahm moved to the top of the European Ryder Cup World Points List after a stunning victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions on the PGA TOUR.

Starting the day seven strokes behind U.S. Ryder Cup player Collin Morikawa, Rahm fired an incredible 10-under-par, 63, round to win by two strokes in Hawaii.

The win sees Rahm leapfrog Rory McIlroy and move into the top spot on the World Points Lists with 109.66 points.

And it was an unlikely victory considering the two-time Team Europe player made a bogey at his opening hole.

"If you told me at the beginning of the round, after that bogey, I was going to do what I did I don't know if I would have believed you," Rahm said.

"But at that point, it's not like winning is really that in mind, you've just got to get to work and start making birdies and that's what I did.

"On 15 is when it truly became reality, when I had that putt to get within one shot and knowing how good I was playing, 16 and 18 are good birdie options.

"That putt went in and then on 17, I couldn't believe it when I missed the green and we had a one-shot lead. It took quite an effort to just settle myself down and change my mindset."

As it stands Rahm (1,850.00 points), Rory McIlroy (1,021.50 points) and Shane Lowry (898.00 points) would claim the three automatic qualifying spots on the European Points List, with Viktor Hovland (56.33 points), Alex Noren (41.83 points) and Adrian Otaegui (39.35 points) currently sitting in the top three positions on the World Points List.

The 2023 Ryder Cup will take place between Sept. 25 – Oct. 1 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, Rome, Italy.
