With the return of the PGA Tour, players again began earning points towards qualifying for the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Sunday, Daniel Berger made the biggest move of the week with his victory at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Berger jumped from No. 29 to No. 12 in the Ryder Cup point standings with his playoff defeat over Collin Morikawa, who also made a significant leap in the standings from No. 31 to No. 15. Following his third victory on the PGA Tour, Berger has positioning himself to make a run at qualifying for his first Ryder Cup team. He was previously a member of the 2017 U.S. President’s Cup team.
Xander Schauffele and Gary Woodland notched top 10 finishes in the Tour’s return to further solidify their positions inside the top six in the Ryder Cup point standings, as the pair traded positions at No. 4 and No. 5 in standings. No players jumped inside the top six on Sunday.
Due to COVID-19, the criteria by which to qualify for the U.S. Team was restructured ahead of the Tour’s return. Currently, the top six players in the point standings will earn an automatic spot on the U.S. Team. The remaining six players on the team will be selected by Captain Steve Stricker.
