CDW will facilitate technology solutions at the 2023 Ryder Cup to support a secure and safe network environment for all individuals in attendance, improving both fan engagement and operational efficiency.
CDW (Nasdaq: CDW) today announced that it will be providing equipment and services at the 2023 Ryder Cup to support the complex technology needs of one of the world’s largest and most prestigious sporting events. As the Official IT Services Supplier to the 2023 Ryder Cup, infrastructure and services provided by CDW will be used to enable a seamless connected experience to spectators across the week of activities at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy.
Attracting an audience of more than 600 million global television viewers, the 44th Ryder Cup matches will be held in autumn 2023. As with most Ryder Cup locations, staging the event introduces unique technological challenges. This instalment’s venue is no exception, with the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club site classed as an area of archaeological interest.
CDW and its technology partners will bring innovation and expertise, combined with the services capabilities required, to support the planning and preparations for a unique deployment at this premium event. The aim is to drive operational efficiencies and optimisation for multiple Ryder Cup stakeholders across many areas, including:
- Services: CDW’s innovative solutions and services integration capabilities will ensure successful collaboration between work streams to deliver a seamless service for this high-profile event. For example, the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) solution – including the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform and Aruba network architecture – will provide a foundation to drive data-first digital experiences at the Ryder Cup.
- Sustainability: CDW is committed to sourcing solutions that will decrease the event’s carbon footprint by improving operational efficiencies and minimising disturbance to the preserved site. All infrastructure provided by CDW will be prefabricated and pre-configured to ensure that they can be quickly deployed, tracked and integrated into existing systems with the lowest possible impact on the environment.
- Security: All eyes will be on the six-day event, which will host thousands of spectators, professional golfers and their teams who will all be connecting to the Ryder Cup Wi-Fi network. CDW will work with Security providers to help ensure that the Ryder Cup network is built upon secure foundations and its experts will be on site throughout the event to ensure a seamless, connected experience for all.
“Technology is at the heart of our vision to create one of the most intelligent, immersive and sustainable venues ever seen at a global sporting event,” said Michael Cole, chief technology officer of the European Tour group. “For this, we needed an IT Services partner that was able to provide us with best-in-class technology and expertise to deploy, transit and set up a technology network capable of connecting hundreds of thousands of spectators, media and players for the ultimate live sport experience”.
JD Hupp, managing director for CDW UK and International added, “CDW is thrilled to be the Official IT Services Supplier to the 2023 Ryder Cup, and we plan to leverage our wide range of IT solutions and services to support the complex technology needs of the event. As the sports landscape continues to evolve, our strong relationship with the Ryder Cup showcases the power of partnership and the importance of innovation between technology and sports. Our expertise in solutions integration will allow us to deliver best-in-class technologies, enabling the ultimate fan and player experience.”
