Europe with a chance to turn the screw in match one - they're by the green and the U.S. are in the drop zone.

It was advantage Europe on the fifth but Xander plays a beautiful shot to gimme range - Fleetwood's putt however does not quite make it to the Circle of Friendship.

McIlroy holes and it's a half - Europe stay 1 UP.
Who doesn't love a driveable par five?
There's a few at Marco Simone and on the fifth so far today we have yet to see a halved hole.

We haven't said much about the bottom match with the first three holes halved in pars but Fleetwood puts his tee-shot to seven feet at the fourth and McIlroy makes the putt.

It's very early days but the home fans are happy right now.
