Pablo Larrazábal claimed his eighth DP World Tour title after a stunning final round at the Korea Championship presented by Genesis, on another strong weekend for Spanish golf in the European Ryder Cup points race
Larrazábal’s two stroke victory from Denmark’s Marcus Helligkilde at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea moved the Spaniard cup 40 places on the European Points List and into 25th place with 680.65 points.
Fellow Spaniard Jorge Campillo also caught the eye on the European Points List with a closing 65 in Korea as the three-time DP World Tour winner finish in a tie for third, climbing four places into fifth on the European Points List with 1,062.33 points.
Campillo is putting together quite the run of form, with four consecutive top ten finishes including a win at the Magical Kenya Open Presented by Absa.
Should either Campillo or Larrazábal make Luke Donald’s European team at Marco Simone in September, it would be their first appearance at the Ryder Cup.
Meanwhile, on the PGA TOUR, it was another impressive week for World Number One Jon Rahm as he finished in solo second at the Mexico Open at Vidanta, won by two-time U.S. Ryder Cup player Tony Finau.
After opening rounds of 67-68, the 2023 Masters Champion made the most of moving day by firing an unbelievable 10-under-par 61. A final round 67 was enough to finish at 21-under-par for the tournament, three strokes behind Finau.
Rahm remains at the top of both the European and the World Points Lists with 2,883.53 points and 330.50 points respectively.
As it stands Rahm (2,883.53 points), Rory McIlroy (2,189.20 points) and Yannik Paul (1,362.14 points) would claim the three automatic qualifying spots on the European Points List, with Matt Fitzpatrick (126.05 points), Viktor Hovland (121.94 points) and Tyrrell Hatton (116.93 points) currently sitting in the top three positions on the World Points List.
The 2023 Ryder Cup will take place between September 25 – October 1 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, Rome, Italy. The venue this week plays host to the DS Automobiles Italian Open.
